Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I decided to become a teacher because when I was in the 8th grade I attended gms and I had this teacher for social studies. His name was Mr. Halstrom. He was this old teacher that would sit in this big grandpa recliner chair and he would just tell us stories and he fascinated me and he made me enjoy that class. He just genuinely inspired me to want to be a teacher just like him. A teacher who made students excited for school.
Where did you go to college?
I started college at UC Davis and I graduated from UCLA.
What personal strengths do you find especially helpful in your teaching?
Some personal strengths I find especially helpful in my teaching would probably be how organized I am. I asked some of my students and they described me as empowering to them. I would agree with this and say this is one of my personal strengths because I have high expectations for my students and I believe that they can accomplish anything that they set their mind to.
What’s your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is seeing my past students and hearing about all their success they’ve had in life. Things like where they graduated from and where they are in their life now. It makes me very proud to know they got themselves there.
What five adjectives best describe you?
Easy going, confident, supportive, patient and organized.
If you weren’t a teacher what would you want to be?
I would like to be a tour guide. I would want this job because it seems like such a fascinating job to me. I would get to tell people stories and teach them all about historic places and it seems like a good fit for me.
What is something that students or most people don’t know about you?
I’ve been to Kazakhstan 2 times.
What are your hobbies?
My hobbies are gardening, walking my dogs, swimming, playing volleyball, going to the beach, baking and spending time with my family.
What is a piece of advice you would give to your students?
One piece of advice I would give to my students is to always plan ahead. If you plan ahead in your life you will be successful. Set goals for yourself, learn a skill, go to college and get a well paying job.
