On the day of Sunday tragic news struck, The Kansas City Royals ace pitcher was killed in a car crash in his native Dominican Republic.  The same day Andy Marte the third basemen of the Cleveland Indians was also killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic.  Yordano Ventura was killed at the age of 25 and Andy Marte was 33.  Both players were very talented, Ventura signed with the Royals in 2008 and the organization then signed him to a 5 year extension that was worth $23 million.  Andy Marte was with  many teams, The Red Sox, the Angels, the Braves, the Pirates, the Indians and the Diamondbacks.  There was also an interesting thing people had noticed, Ventura started the last game Marte had batted, and they faced each other.  Commissioner Rob Manfred said,” Yordano was a key figure in the Royals’ recent success.  His electric talent on the mound helped lead the Royals to two American league pennants and the 2015 World Championship.  Andy was a respected member of six organizations who played seven major league seasons, including the Cleveland Indians from 2006-10.  On behalf of Major league Baseball, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, teammates, friends and fans of both players.”  Marte and Ventura were both very talented players and had a lot of playing time ahead.  Yordano Ventura 1991-2017 , Andy Marte 1983-2017, rest in peace.
