You’ve surely have had to had some gummy bears, gummy worms, or rainbow lollipops. All of these sweet treats are made with one main ingredient: sugar. Each grain of table sugar is a crystal.  The biggest crystals make rock candy. You can do this at home by dropping a string or stick into a glass of sugar syrup and let it cool down slowly. Adding gelatin during that process produces gummies and marshmallows. Cotton candy is made up of tiny threads of this glass, which machines create by heating sugar and then shooting it through tiny holes as it cools.

How much sugar do you a week? ¨ I eat about 3 pieces of candy per week¨ says 8th grader Kyara Flores.
