All throughout the school years, Griffiths Middle School offers many different sports you can get involved in. As the school year comes to an end, it’s time for the final sport of the season, Track and Field. Track and Field consists of many different events you can participate in. There are running events and field events. The field events are shot put, long jump, and high jump. The running events are the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, mile, and relay. Before getting the chance to participate in these events, you must have a 2.0 GPA or higher and must attend practice consistently. The track meets are held at Downey and Warren High school. Track meets are on every Thursday for three weeks. Every week you compete against a different middle school in Downey. The final track meet is called the District Meet. At the district meet only the top two athletes in every event get to attend the meet and compete against the three other middle schools. One of our track athletes, Jocelyn Singer, says this, “Track and Field is a very fun and exciting experience. I would recommend giving track a try because it helps you find new interests and if you want to meet new people track is a good way to do so.”
